A micro farm located on a historically significant property in Lakeville Connecticut. Growing on only 1.22 acres, we are trying to be a model in small, diverse agriculture that will pave the way for a more sustainable future. Growing small. Thinking big.


Crooked Oak Farm is set on a small parcel of land which was once part of the local Iron industry. The house on the property was built in the 1820s for the paymaster of the ore mine. The propery has a gradual slope with perfect southern exposure, making growing here ideal. Most of the land was left dormant for more than 40 years before it was bought by the current owner; Alexandra Hunter.

Alexandra and her significant other; Steven, began preparing and working the land in 2014 shortly after it was purchased. Alexandra has an associates degree in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management from Northwestern Community College, more than 15 years experience in  horticulture and is a professional floral designer. These qualifications combined with her absolute love of cooking, plants and the outdoors inspired a lifelong dream of one day having a small, sustainable farm. Thus was born Crooked Oak Farm, which she and Steven named after the little crooked Oak tree; small but mighty, on the South-Eastern corner of the property where Ore Hill road and Rt 44 meet in Lakeville, CT.

Fresh herbs don't seem to be utilized often enough. They can breath new life into even the most mundane dishes. Whether you are stuffing the cavity of a chicken with parsley and lemon, infusing oil with basil or making a vegan potato salad dressing with them, herbs are a summer cooks best friend.
